What is a Log Line

Hello friends, this is a small topic called what is a Log line in script writing, logline in screenplay can be described as, "Log line is nothing but summarizing all the concept of a film in maximum three to four lines revealing the main theme and the interesting sub plots in a film which will hook the viewer to think about the story"are known as log lines.

The main use of this log line is "advertising". Log line generates curiosity in audience. Helps in easy campaigning of the film through ads, television etc., also views can connect to the content easily.

These log lines are used to be treated as  a separate form in old Hollywood days, but as the days passed..these log lines are created to easily access the screenplay's from Hollywood screenplay library..i.e they use to right the whole summary of the film in one r two lines on the back of the screenplay or on the top so that one could find the content of the film without unstacking them.

An example for this concept of log line can be found in the video below:

Log line For The Above Video: "The legend came as a shepherd, The legend came as a merchant, The legend came as a Lawyer and now the legend came as a Police"

Shot Division In Film Making

Hello friends, today i am going to tell u about shot division. I love this part in film making because shot division shows the caliber of a director how well he can shoot a scene. Hope u people are aware what is the meaning of shot division..Before that please don't get confused between a scene and a shot. Both of them are different. To tell u clearly..

Scene: A scene is nothing but change of location...or a combination of various shots with respect to same location i.e here no location change takes place. That is for example please have a  look at the image below. Below is the snap shot of a scene which is written by me long time back. Image depicts how a scene looks like.

Shot: Whereas, a shot is nothing but the duration between the camera on and off ( i.e) for example just follow the above image...that very scene can be divided into many number of shots depending upon the visual power of an individual without disturbing the rhythm of the motion picture so that viewer doesn't get confused. This shot division differs from individual to other  because there is no rule for dividing a scene into many number of shots..Getting confused...? So, let me explain..

Please have a look at the above image..Let us assume the above scene as Scene No:1

In the above scene location is Abhiram's house:

So, first shot would be showing a house and this nothing but an establishing shot..Name is as 1A i.e nothing but A denotes first shot in scene one.

Showing this house can be done in many number of ways..

It can be a TILT SHOT or it can be a MEDIUM SHOT or it can be a WIDE SHOT..choosing a shot is directors choice and it can be different from one individual to another since ideas and creativity can't be same with everyone :)

After that this scene happens to taking place at Abhiram's bedroom..so now it can be a MEDIUM SHOT or a LONG SHOT  or a  PAN  from one part of the room.

Else, a closeup shot of a clock, etc., can be done to establish that Abhiram is lazy..THESE CAN BE NAMED AS SCENE NO:1B,1C SO ON DEPENDING ON THE NUMBER OF SHOTS U ARE GOING TO DIVDE A SCENE.

Like this, we will just divide each and every action written in the action  part of the script  into different shots.
Shot division plays an important role in film making.

I have already told u that the method of dividing shots depends upon the particular individual like how he see's it in  his visualization. There are few ways and methods for dividing a shot. So the u will not get confused while dividing it. I will tell u those methods in my next post. Please comment if u have any doubt about this post.

Types Of Dolly Shots

Dolly Shots
Hello friends, this post is about different types of dolly shots or Tracking  shots and how to use them in film making. If u don't know know what are basic shots in film making then  just follow this post basic camera shots and angles. I will explain from the basic like actually, what is a Dolly?

Dolly

A dolly is nothing but a cart which carries camera and shooting equipment and travels on tracks such as trolleys and helps in canning a shot when the subject/object is on the move. Usually, many film makers call a dolly shot as in and out shot. Few film makers call dolly as Tracking or Trucking shot. Since a Dolly is just to moves the camera close and take away from the subject/object or it can be used for side way movement of the camera.

Dolly Operation

A dolly shot will have a lever for operation vertically..in some special cases..a crane will be mounted on the Dolley  for additional flexibility and movement. Some Dolley's can be operated without tracks as well for greater movement and flexibility..though it need to have good surfaces. There is lot of respect for a Dolly in film making. Steady cam gave some serious competition when it was invented but even now Dolly is preferred for many shots in film making.

Types Of Dolly Shots

  1. Character Dolly
  2. Pull-back Reveal
  3. Depth Dolly
  4. Expand Dolly
  5. Contract Dolly.

I will explain u in detail about types of dolly shots in detail in my next post..please do follow this blog and show your support.
