How To Become A Successful Telugu Film Director

How To Become A Successful Telugu Film Director
Hello friends, today i have come up with a general topic how to become a successful Telugu film director.I am very happy to share my views with you all because this post is only meant for sharing my views with you all about what are the qualities an upcoming director should have. Many of our readers are messaging me about this very topic but questioning in a different way like how to approach a director..? or how to narrate a story to a producer etc., i will deal all the above questions in my upcoming posts but for time being i want to discuss about what are the tools should an aspiring director should have because without sword we can win the war..like wise, without effort and technical knowledge we can't flourish in film industry.

Have Your Basic Graduation Degree

Don't switch back to another webpage am not going to take a lecture about this now :). But the fact is fact..what ever may be your passion according to current trends every individual should have at least a graduation degree to support himself in the current world.you. Without having a proper degree u can't survive properly and u can't get proper respect from anyone what ever may be the industry. Degree brings you the dignity to your profile...and you must know that as a film director you have to deal with 24 crafts and you should have minimum grip and basics about each and every craft since you are the leader of the cast and crew. And your education will surely help in grasping new things quickly and also helps in knowing technical details well..for example..if  you have a dream of becoming a good cinematographer then you should have minimum knowledge about science..you should know what a focal length is..how to calculate it these are all basic things to achieve all those u need education. So please have a basic degree. Because life is more precious than passion.

Go To A Film School

If possible please try to study in a film school...if u don't have a chance some how join as a assistant director under some reputed director in industry this is the second best alternative way you have so that you may gain some knowledge about film making but a small advice don't waste your time as a assistant director for years together always remember your goal is to become a director and you are learning as a assistant director that's it..once after gaining some confidence just come out and start your trails..always focus on your goal.

Give Your 100% Don't Take Chances In Your Efforts

Always remember, when your goal is high then your efforts must also be the same. Give your 100% at least for 2-3 years. Don't think about second option what you have in your hands,am sorry to say this but the truth is that Indian film industry is just equal to gambling. You may gain r you may loose but effort is a must. If you have worth someone who like to encourage new talent may approach you. We can't predict what will happen all you have to do is..be prepared and give your hundred percent until you reach your goal. If you have friends in industry that may bring some favors for you. Try very way which is possible and within your reach.

Get Your Family Support

Friends, this is very important and essential part for your film career, gain your parents confidence first because u have to sustain for 2-3 years without any income in a city like Hyderabad. Leave about luxuries, at least you should be in a position to get on with your minimum needs like food, shelter etc., for that you may have to depend on your family because chances are so low that if you go for part time job you may loose your focus on your trails. So,first think about this and take your next step.

Have Some Short Films In Your Kit

Always remember one thing, everything in life will come to you based on your talent and abilities leave about 1% who jump to top only because of luck remaining 99% will get based on their talent. So, you should project your talent in order to gain director's confidence(in case if you want to join as a assistant to him)/ producer's confidence(in order to get a directional chance). The only way for showing your talent is nothing but directing few short films with good professional touch.

Have Patience And Be Focused On Your Goal

Always remember one thing, film industry is a mixture of everything, Try to find good and in case if you face some trouble try to forget it as soon as possible, and if u don't have that courage then my advice would be get away from all these things. You should tune your heart in such an extent that it should over come all the difficulties which comes your way. Its not that easy like what you think, i know some people who thought to quit the industry after working for 15 years as a assistant director because of an insult done by the director in front of the crew. If u have strong belief in ethics then please forget about all these things and try to do some productive work.I have lots of examples like what i have narrated above. So think twice r thrice before taking a decision and please discuss with your parents. Be patient until you get your chance because i have already told you its just like a gambling..be strong and be prepared for investing 3 years of time for trails itself minimum. But give it everything.

Be Humble, Honest And Respectful With Everyone

Yes, Telugu film industry is very egoistic, you can't do all those what i said in the heading, u can't be honest...surprised...? well i will tell you one example..one of my friend worked as a assistant director under well known director for few months, my friend doesn't know how to be  diplomatic for that matter doesn't know that he should not pin point the mistakes taking place in the shoot and straight away he said the same thing to the director about the mistake what he found..from that moment he was targeted and harassed by the director until he(my friend) left the crew. But still try to be diplomatic, respect others it may bring some good for you. Don't ever be arrogant and restless it may damage your chances.

My Advice

All the above things which i have mentioned are from my own experiences and some are taken from my friends..Entering into Telugu film industry is not that easy. You should be prepared for everything. If you don't believe me just go Krishna Nagar in Hyderabad they will narrate you so many sad stories.Am not discouraging you but make up you mind strong. If you get a chance without any struggle well and good..but try for 3 years if you don't get a chance then come back and look for some other job which you like. Am telling you guys again...Life is more important than passion. If you guys have few more ideas please feel free to share with your fellow readers. Please feel free to comment.

DSLR Filmmaking

Dslr Film Camera

Hi friends, DSLR filmmaking is just nothing but digital filmmaking. This is just an introduction to DSLR filmmaking.Welcome to the world of digital photography. This is a guest post by Chaitanya Verma our regular blog follower.

INTRODUCTION:

Do u know what is a DSLR? It is Digital Single Reflex Lens Camera, first these cameras are meant for high definition photography later these cameras were upgraded with some features like FULL HD video recording. Now a days many independent film makers are using these cameras for making films, because these cameras are cheaper when compared to traditional cameras, used for making feature films gives better quality output, easy to carry and we can shoot some absurd angles without much trouble. There are many vendors in the market that manufacture DSLR cameras. Among them CANON is the leading company. CANON auto-focus capable cameras are sold under the name EOS(ELECTRO-OPTICAL SYSTEM).So all the DSLRs from CANON starts with the name EOS.

MODELS:

There are different models in CANON .These DSLRs are divided into some categories, they are ENTRY LEVEL DSLRs,MID LEVEL DSLRs and PROFESSIONAL DSLRs.Models like EOS 1000D, EOS1100D,EOS550D,EOS600D fall under the category of ENTRY LEVEL DSLRs. These models are much useful for beginners for practicing .EOS 60D and EOS 7D are MID RANGE DSLRs and are used by many independent film makers.EOS 5D MARK II is a PROFESSIONAL DSLR and is used in making feature films also. For a complete reference of different models their features visit Canon Cameras

REVOLUTION BROUGHT BY DSLR:

DSLRs made a huge revolution in motion picture. The next generation of digital filmmaking technology arrived in DSLRs before anything else and quite by accident. Their large CMOS sensors have been speeding up and advancing over the past 5 years and this - combined with the excitement over all things HD from TVs to compact cameras, has seen HD video modes sneak their way into DSLRs. Great film maker George Lucas entered into this revolution and made a film REDTAILS by using CANON DSLRs.

NOTE:

Indian film maker Ram Gopal Varma also made a film with a budget of 1.5 lakhs and made a feature film in a period of 5 days, and got revolution among many independent film makers in India also.

I will discuss about the DSLR film making concepts and about canon 5d mark ii which is used vastly in film making.

What Is A Film Treatment

film treatment
Hi friends, did you ever heard about this term called film treatment ever..? now a days every director claims that my movie doesn't have anything new when you look at the script but i have given a different treatment to it. You might have come across this very particular word treatment lot many times, but do you know the meaning of this term..? And do you know the purpose of this term..? well i will explain in detail about the stages you have to go through while you script..but before that i have explained you what is a logline and how to write a log line effectively in my earlier posts..if you have not gone through them please have a look at them and come back to read this post.Okay now lets focus on the subject.

 Treatment

A film treatment is nothing but complete exploration of your story with details but not a completely formatted script. A film treatment can be in any form like synopsis, beat outline or a story outline where each and every style have different approach and need.

Purpose Of A Film Treatment

The main purpose of a film treatment is nothing but:
  1. Creating a story outline at a glance.
  2. Showing your intent about your script as a writer.
  3. Convey your movie tone throughout from the beginning to the end.
  4. Important dialogues and key points in your script
  5. Conveying your theme of your script
  6. Writing some descriptions about your characters.
  7. Much needed thing is when you don't have a final draft script ready with you, then you can able to present your treatment for having a quick glance about your script. At this stage itself most of the experts will decide weather this synopsis can be made into a script or not.

Types Of Film Treatments

There are two types of film treatments available namely:
  • Original draft treatment
  •  Presentation treatment

Original Draft Treatment

This is the very first version of your script where a detailed explanation of everything like your characterizations, locations, tone and theme of your film are explained without any limitations. And it can vary from 40-80 pages on average. And the more elaborated forms of Original draft treatment are beat outline and scriptment.

Beat Outline

Okay guys don't get panic after listening to this very word called treatment and elements of it. As i told you in my earlier post how to start a script from a blank page i have told you to write all your ideas which you get into your mind after after that filter them. But this is not a necessary step for everyone..if you are confident about what you are writing and comfortable with your story line you can directly write scene heading and you can start writing briefly about the actions and dialogues etc, but this is done just for the purpose of creating the skeleton of your story. Not many details are mentioned..just important scene headings, dialogues are mentioned. This is only done for the purpose of having a quick look at the story, for finding important twists and turns and to follow the flow of the story. This is called beat outline. Many writers say that this is the very complicated part of a script since it need correct planning and mapping of your story in mind to bring a skeleton look to your story.

Synopsis

Many of you might be aware of what what a synopsis is..synopsis is nothing but summarizing your complete story in a paragraph are long paragraphs without any heading or dialogues...Dialogues are not mentioned specially but they are part and parcel of the flow of the story. There is nothing much to tell about this very word synopsis many of you might have experienced when you first start your script. This synopsis just looks like a short story without much focus on the plot.

Inter Mixing Synopsis with beat Outline

Sometime according to our comfort level these synopsis is inter linked with beat outline and there's nothing wrong in that. You can number the scenes for your convenience, scene heeding with a detailed action and dialogues are part and parcel of this kind of  story structuring. Many writers will stress on establishing the tone and genre of the film while writing this kind of treatment.

 Presentation Treatment

This is more edited version of the original draft where you will eliminate long descriptions and details about the characters and dialogues are limited so that it may be presented in-case if you doesn't have a fully formatted script with you. This may only last for 7-8 pages maximum and it should have the things like tone of your film, theme characters and main plot twists and turns etc.,

So this is all about film treatment and various stages of scripting. And by the way there are different ways of writing a film treatment(Presentation Treatment) i will explain you with examples in my next post but please let me know your views about this post.

Film Transitions

Transition And Its Use In Filmmaking

As we all know, movie is nothing but narrating a story with the help of moving images in a rhythmic way without disturbing the flow. To maintain that smoothness from one scene to another scene, a transition will be used. There are lot of transitions available today with the arrival of number of software's. Choosing a transition will depend on many things, like mood of the movie, genre etc., But the main agenda of the director or the editor should be smooth narration of the story. So follow the video and please feel free to comment.

Avatar Script

Hello friends, Today am posting James Cameron's latest sensation Avatar script for download. This is the unedited version of script where you can find some scenes which are not present in the actual movie. I have not gone through the script, but many of the other critics said that, as a script there is nothing g much unique or special about this script, usually when you look at the script of Titanic you can directly visualize what he as written in the script but not with this script of Avatar. To tell you frankly i have got disappointed after watching the movie..i am a very big fan of James Cameron but this film is not up to his standards(am only speaking about his writing capabilities).
