In my previous post i have discussed about various types of camcorders available broadly and differences between a digital camcorder and a dslr camera please go through those posts before reading this. But everyone will get confused while purchasing a new camcorder or a DSLR camera because there are so many things to consider while going for a camcorder or a camera for independent film maker. FLASH MEMORY CAMCORDERS

This post  goal is to educate newbies who are going to buy their first camcorder or camera ever. so pro's you can read this post to add some more points that can be useful to newbies who are not aware of these things. so,now coming back..this is nothing but digital camcorders era..since transferring the data to a computer is much more easy when compared to Analog types of camcorders in the past without missing the quality of the image or video. Many feel that flash memory camcorders are the best type of camcorders available at present.

"Flash memory camcorders as the name suggest the data will be directly recorded to a internal flash drive or to a flash memory card"

ADVANTAGES OF FLASH MEMORY CAMCORDERS

  • These camcorders are small and portable because of the media they use.
  • They can store lot of data for an average user, because they use flash memory cards and internal memory in some cases both. So, video storage will be grand.
  • In some models in this category, you can find both internal and flash memory cards as well as DVD drive too to record the the data.
  • These flash memory camcorders are considered to be durable because of the fact that moving parts in this camcorder are subjected to minimum.

DISADVANTAGES OF FLASH MEMORY CAMCORDERS

  • You will get some what a low quality video when compared to other camcorders in the present market.
  • You should choose a compatible software for editing purpose when compared to MiniDV camcorders.

HD CAMCORDERS

HD camcorders are meant for intermediate level filmmakers i.e who are not pros at the same time who are not in a beginning stage of film making. As the name suggest high definition(HD) camcorder is meant for better image and video quality. There are lots of advantages in using these HD camcorders..it gives wide rage of features, recording time is high, we can record lager files with ease, portable and prices are low. Because of all the reason HD camcorders are very reliable and safe.

ADVANTAGES OF HD CAMCORDERS

  • As mentioned in the above paragraph, wide range of features.
  • Prices are low when compared to other professional  cameras.
  • Top image quality
  • Detailed imagery
  • Capacity to hold large files.
  • Capacity to record for a long time.
  • Sizes are getting smaller as the days are progressing.

DISADVANTAGES OF DIGITAL CAMCORDERS

DSLR VS Camcorder

Digital camcorders Vs DSLR cameras
Hello friends, today our topic is about DSLR VS Camcorder i.e differences between a dslr camera and camcorder .But before that, i would like to go into details about development of normal cameras up to digital single lens reflex cameras(DSLR). As you all know, now using a DSLR camera for film making is the trend. Canon 5D, Canon 7D are very famous models in DSLR arena. But when it comes to choosing a camera for  independent film making, this will be the most hardest thing because of so many reasons. But before going to DSLR cameras, one have to keep few things in mind and choose the best camera or camcorder that suits your needs. But this post doesn't emphasis on considerations while buying a digital camera or a DSLR model camera. But the main theme of this post is to just tell you the basic differences between a DSLR camera and a digital camcorder. But before reading this post,if you not familiar with digital camcorders or digital cameras please go through Types Of Camcorders And Digital Cameras, and if you are not aware about what a DSLR means then please go through DSLR filmmaking.

Development From Normal Cameras To DSLR Cameras

In olden days the cameras use two have to different lens which are meant for two different uses. One lens for viewfinder and another one for exposing the film in the camera and these two lens are called as twin lens reflex the main disadvantage of this is twin reflex lens is that when you  see something through viewfinder of the camera its not the same what you get in your final photograph because of the light reflection but its not the same thing with DSLR cameras. They will have a single reflex lens so that light will get reflected in the same path through the lens, so the result will be what you see through the viewfinder will be reflected in your video or photograph.

Image Quality

The most important thing when choosing a camera or camcorder is the image quality. What do you think guys..? which is better a 12MP digital camcorder or 3.5MP DSLR camera..? okay i will get into the details, you will have sensors for both digital camcorder and a DSLR camera..but the size of the sensor is responsible for the quality of the print you get..yes its true..Mega Pixel is not an bothering thing to consider, the usual size of a digital camcorder sensor is usually small when compared to DSLR, usually DSLR sensor size varies from 14.8mm-22.2mm and 15.5mm-23.6mm. So, when it comes to picture quality you may go for DSLR camera that is why many filmmakers are passionate about DSLR's.

Lenses

This is the major difference between  camcorder and a DSLR camera, a digital camcorder will only have permanent lens which you get when purchasing  the camcorder. Whereas, for a DSLR you will have interchangeable lenses for zooming and stability and focus, you will get different types of lenses depending upon your need like wide angle lenses etc., this will give you a chance to experiment and give you a chance to give feel to your shot depending upon the emotion you want to carry in a scene.Zoom option is fixed and works in a limited field in a digital camcorder but we can have different types of lenses for DSLR cam.

Frame Rates

A DSLR camera will have faster frame rates when compared to digital cams. Frame rate in a digital cam is slow. Whereas in a DSLR camera you can shoot at 24f/sec. Also you can slow down and freeze the frame rate when you feel it is necessary in a DSLR camera.

Some Advantages And Disadvantages With Both Digital Camcorders And DSLR Cameras

Digital camcorders are very sleek and small so ultimately easy to carry, whereas some advanced DSLR cameras will be big in size. A digital cam will not have shutter,no noise etc., tilting, panning will be easy, you can shoot anything and everything without changing any lenses. You will have a framing option in digital camcorders so that you can frame your shot easily without any problem or assistance of a professional cinematographer(i.e following rule of thirds etc.,).

When it comes to DSLR cameras, sensor dust is a big problem..Will have shutter sound depending upon the situation. But good at auto focus and fast frame rates when compared to digital cams. Price is also an important factor since digital camcorders are more cheaper than DSLR cameras. So guys please decide which suits you best. I will post about the things to consider while purchasing a digital camcorder and a DSLR camera in my upcoming posts.please let me know your opinion on this post in comments space..

And from now on am going to deal about DSLR cameras, difference between DSLR and SLR cameras and their usage in my upcoming posts. Now,just coming back to the topic, this very post deals about various types of cameras and camcorders available for film making and major differences between each of them. And also, these are very basic things to be known for an upcoming and aspiring filmmaker.First of all i will divide everything into parts starting from camcorders to various types of cameras.

TYPES OF FORMATS IN CAMCORDERS

Camcorders are broadly classified into two major types depending upon their formats and storage devices used. They are namely:
  • Analog
  • Digital

ANALOG AND DIGITAL

The above classification is done on the basis of the storage device used in the camcorder. Analog type of camcorders are not used in modern video recording since transferring data is much more easier with digital camcorder.

TYPES OF ANALOG CAMCORDERS

All these Analog camcorders are used in olden days, the major difference between a analog and digital camcorder is that a tape is used to record the video for analog camcorders where as digital camcorders use flash memory or small hard disk to store the data.Below are the analog camcorders broad classification.
  • VHS
  • VHS-C
  • Betamax
  • Video8

DIFFERENT TYPES OF DIGITAL CAMCORDERS

  • Mini Dv Camcorders
  • Flash Memory Camcorders
  • High Definition(HD) Camcorders
  • Hard Disk Drive(HDD) Camcorders
  • DVD Camcorders

All the above are the major types of camcorders available in different formats. I will explain about the advantages and disadvantages of all the above mentioned camcorders in a separate post so that i will be easy to understand about camcorders available in the market to choose one. As of now, just try to know the types of camcorders available with broad headings. I want to deal this cameras as a series so that it will be easy to follow, and i want to start everything from the roots so that a newbie can easily follow from  the basics. So please try to cooperate if you are already aware of these topics.

MAJOR FEATURES TO LOOK AFTER WHILE CHOOSING A CAMCORDER

  • Variable Shutter Speed
  • Metering System(To Calculate the amount of light entering the camera)
  • Variable Aperture
  • Lens Used
  • Optical Zoom And Auto Focus
  • Image Stabilization
  • Preset Controls( Night mode, day light etc.,)

canon dslr camera
Point and shoot cameras and Single lens reflex cameras are both still cameras which are used in still photography,so we can leave about SLR and P&S cameras. Whereas, Digital single lens reflex cameras(DSLR) are used in modern film making.I have already explained about DSLR cameras in my last post, please go through that for more details and i will explain in detail about P&S camcorders and major differences between camcorders and DSLR cameras in my next post. Please don't get unrest after reading this post..i have only used this post  as a platform to launch into cameras arena. I will explain each and everything like how to choose a camcorder or a camera depending upon your need, fundamental terminology used in digital photography etc., so please stay glued and show your support like before.
